Our Uncle Malcolm seemed like a giant to me and my younger brothers and we often enjoyed our uncle's rough and tumble play. I often recount an occasion on a Pembrokeshire holiday when Malcolm helped his 3 nephews construct a gargantuan sand dam on Broadhaven beach, which to my mind has never been bettered. We were frantically trying to stop a fast flowing stream when Malcolm pushed a huge mountain of sand into its path. The dam lasted all afternoon making a safe, sun-warmed pool for many children to enjoy (including Malcolm). This tale has become a legend in my family, passed down to my own children - about Malcolm, whose generosity and sense of fun will not be forgotten.
